Vazhakkai/Raw banana (Plantain) fry

Vazhakkai or Plantain contain more starch and less sugar. Variety of recipes can be prepared using Cooking Banana. Today we will learn how to make fry out of it. 

Ingredients 

Vazhakkai/Raw banana – 1 
Chilli powder – ½ spoon 
Garam masala powder – ½ spoon 
Turmeric powder – ½ cup 
Salt – as required 
Oil – to fry 

Preparation 


1. Cut Vazhakkai in round shapes. Put turmeric powder
2.Put garam masala powder, chilli powder and salt. Mix it well and keep it for 30 mins

3. In dosa pan pour 2 spoons of oil and fry Vazhakkai

 
4. Vazhakkai fry is ready to serve and eat

Goes well with Rice and Rasam.

Plantain is rich in carbohydrates, protein and contains very less % of fat. Raw plantain is an excellent source of vitamin B6 and vitamin C and a good source magnesium and potassium.

Butter Milk kolumbu



Ingredients

White pumpkin – 1 piece
Water – to cook
Coriander leaves
Curry leaves

To Grind

Coconut – ½ cup
Small Onion’s – ½ cup
Green chilli – 2
Pepper – 1 spoon
Cumin seeds – ½ spoon
Turmeric powder – ½ spoon
Garlic - 2
Coriander seeds – 1 spoon
Curry leaves - 1
Butter Milk - 3 cups
Salt - as required

Preparation


1. Pressure cook white pumpkin with 3 whistle.
2. Grind the ingredients mentioned under “To Grind”
3. Pour only ½ cup of butter milk and grind well. It should be like below consistency

4. In a vessel pour the grinded mixture and put white pumpkin
5. Pour butter milk and add salt as required. Boil well
6. Garnish with coriander leaves and curry leaves 


Instead of white pumpkin, Ladies finger, capsicum and beetroot can also be used.

Ven Pongal

Ven pongal can be had as breakfast along with coconut chutney or sambar. When you prepare sweet pongal, ven pongal can also be prepared if you want to have something yummy.

Ingredients

Raw rice/Pacharisi – 1 cup
Moong dhal – ½ cup
Water – 4 cup
Mustard – ½ spoon
Cumin seeds – ½ spoon
Pepper – 10
Chilli - 3
Cashew nut -10
Dry grapes – 10
Curry and coriander leaves - to garnish





Preparation




Pressure cook raw rice, moong dhal with 4 cup of water as mentioned above








In a pan, pour oil, mustard, cumin seeds and pepper.



Put curry leaves, chilli , cashew nut and dry grapes



Put the boiled rice in pan and mix it well as shown here




Garnish with Corriander leaves.





Ven pongal is ready!!! Enjoy this with coconut chutney and sambar. Perfect combination and healthy breakfast


Sweet Pongal

For pongal festival and other few occasions pongal is famous and this is very easy to prepare as well. Let’s now see how to prepare sweet pongal. 

Ingredients

Raw rice/Pacharisi – 1 cup
Moong dhal – ½ cup
Water – 4 cup
jaggery – ½
Cashewnut -10
Dry grapes – 10
Ghee – ½ cup


Preparation



Pressure cook raw rice, moong dhal with 4 cup of water as mentioned above.








In a vessel put jaggery and pour ¼ cup of water to prepare paagu.  Keep this aside to cool down.






In a pan pour ghee. Put cashew nut and dry grapes as shown here.


  


Filter paagu vellam mentioned in point 2 in pan and put the boiled rice.





Mix it well and sweet pongal is ready!!! 
Enjoy the sweet pongal.

With the above proportion you can prepare half as sweet pongal and half as ven pongal.
